Meet James!

Picture
Tell me a bit about yourself?
I studied at ULIP between 2017-18 for an MA in International Relations. I now live in London and work at Byfield Consultancy, a legal PR agency.

Career wise did you have a vision of what direction you wanted to take before/during your time at ULIP?
Yes, I wanted to use my interest in politics and international relations to get into communications and public relations. I had previously done work experience at a law firm, so I had a good idea that I wanted to work in the legal sector too.

Since graduation has this vision changed?
Not really, but I now know that I would like to work in a law firm in their in-house communications department at some point and that I would like to continue to work in the crisis communications sector.

What memories stand out for you from your time in Paris and at ULIP?
All of it was great fun! In particular:
- The events organised in the basement were always great fun. The Mad Maker and Les Caves Saint-Sabin were always good nights. I think Concrete has closed now but it was great fun.
- Engin’s lectures were always fascinating and really enjoyable. Nivi and Peter were brilliant and taught us so much.
- The food was amazing, so much cheese and bread!

What advice would you give your younger self/current students at ULIP?
Enjoy studying in Paris as much as possible, because working can never be as much fun! There is so much to see in Paris and France, so there’s no excuse for being bored. The professors all know so much so try and glean as much from them as you can.
