Feminist society
Bienvenue à tous et à toutes !
Welcome to Feminist Society, my name is Alice and I am delighted to say I am currently running ULIP’s very own feminist movement. Last year with my co-head, I organised talks both from guest speakers and ULIP staff, and screenings of films and documentaries. Topics included biopics of acclaimed director-photographer Agnès Varda, who anchored the Nouvelle Vage cinematic movement, author Anne Garetta, whose novel Sphinx explores gender obscurity to challenge the reader’s subtlest of preconceptions, and activist Malala Yousufzai, the girl shot by the Taliban that went on to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. We enjoyed Céline Schiama’s films Band de filles and Tomboy. This year I will be diversifying events, taking Fem Soc out of the ULIP basement, with links with the University of Kent in Paris, the University of Columbia in Paris and feminist tour company Women of Paris. Feminist Society welcomes everyone; we all can and should care about gender equality, and that’s not limited to the traditional female feminist struggle. I’m always open to suggestions and would love to hear any ideas of what events students would enjoy, feel free to contact me via my ULIP email address : alice.millett@ulip.lon.ac.uk Society Head 2019/20: Alice Millett Co-head 2019/20: Sean Young |
