Part 1: Buddy day Monday 22nd september: Freshers' week kicked off in traditional fashion, where the latest arrivals of BA1s were taken off to various quartiers of Paris such as Montmartre, le Marais and even along the la coulée verte. The entire group later met up at a ULIP favourite, 25 Est, and enjoyed a lovely meal and wine whilst looking out onto the canal. A light and comfortable start to the week, the calm before the storm...
Ah, the bar crawl. The infamous leveler, where all those fresh and nervous faces from the buddy day are left hanging in a toilet by 3am, surrendering to an outrageous amount traditional british binge drinking. The event was held this year in the Parmentier area, starting in le Mecano bar where everybody was split up into groups with various tasks to complete by the end of the night. By midnight, every group had visited the 7 designated bars and had all ended up in Le Quartier General, all hitting the dance floor and drinks deals in a way that only UK students seem to perfect.
Part 3: Fresher's fair Wednesday night brought with it the first ULIP quiz and first nube room event of the year, followed by a group of us heading over to a bar in Parmentier for some beer, bowling and billiards. Thursday morning thus started very calmly, with the annual freshers' fair. This is an opportunity to look at every society and its activities throughout the year, and a chance to sign yourself up! This year's fair included Veggie, feminist, LGBT, politics, female rugby, radio and many more! Although, thursday wasn't going to end very lightly...
Part 4: The Fancy dress And as night fell on thursday night, the fancy dress unravelled like a filthy bathroom mat as ULIP arrived at Belushi's Gare du Nord dressed in the most bizarre of costumes. The theme of the night was metro stations, which brought out all our imaginative sides tucked in the pockets of our already drunken heads. It must have been almost impossible for outsiders to begin to guess what we had all come as, and with shame left by the front door at home, fancy dress proved to be a very enjoyable night!
Part 5: The ball. Freshers week 2014 came to a glamorous end at the now familiar 'Arches du Marais,' the chosen venue for this year's fresher's ball. The last freshers' week event of the year began as a very classy affair, with ULIP arriving in their suits, their polished shoes, their wondrous dresses and expensive heels. The open bar remained the hero of the night, with the drinks flowing endlessly until a courageous 5am. A fantastic end to the week, and a great precedent for all the events to follow this year!
